Floor tiling in the house other than the kitchen or bathroom is generally limited to the hallway in the UK.
Tiling your hall is particularly useful if you have a pet, especially dogs, who dont like wiping their feet! Tiles will be far more hard wearing than laminate flooring and have the added advantage that they do not damage with water (although we would suggest the use of a mat in the winter to avoid slipping epsecially if you have young children).
If you have a solid (concrete) floor then more than likely the tiles can be laid straight down.
Sometimes levelling is required, often if old tiles have been removed. We offer this in as part of the tiling service for clients who need it.
Where there is a wood floor we will need to fit a 6mm Aquapanel first. This is made from Portland cement with a coated fibre mesh embedded in the core. This aids (but cannot stop entirely) in preventing the tile or grout cracking. (Thin tiles should not be put down on a wooden floor)
Floor tiles are all shapes, sizes and prices. Spend some time deciding what you want start with the size and colour and go from there. At the same time choose your grout to match the tile you select.
